Courses

We teach courses designed with a specific audience, and their specific needs, in mind.

Recent courses include scientific writing workshops for health professionals of a non-English speaking background, and communication skills for scientists.

At the scientific writing workshops, we teach very practical skills to health professionals. We cover the generic skills of planning, drafting, revising and presenting a paper.  We teach the specific skills of writing a paper that meets the needs of a journal editor. We can devise a data set relevant to the audience that will allow participants to write a complete paper based on that data by the end of the course. We offer tailored tuition and individual feedback throughout the course, and for up to 12 months afterwards, so participants can continue to refine their skills. At the communication skills workshops, we teach scientists how to write in plain English, how to present their work to non-specialist audiences, how to improve their public speaking and how to deal with all that attached to science - the funding, the sponsors, the media and the rest.
